It’s a different team that is just getting started.
The 2001/2002 girls participated in the annual Croatian Youth tournament on June 29/30th at Norval.
Each game started with their traditional chant “1, 2, 3 Hrvatska”, as they formed their group hug before each and every game.
The girls started with an impressive 4-0 victory against a very game Hamilton team. The girls put up a gallant effort against an extremely tough Cleveland team and were defeated 5-0.
Knowing that they had to win their last round robin game to make the finals, they were excellent in a 2-0 shutout of Windsor.
That meant a rematch against Cleveland in the finals. The girls were excited and their undying support of each other should make everybody proud. They gave it everything they had but came out on the wrong end of a 3-0 score.
Seeing the excitement of the girls after the game even in defeat brought tears to everyones eyes. It shows that the girls get what is most important about being a team – being together.
Congratulations to Dolores Cvitan, Mariana Mrse, Ivana Vrbos, Angelina Baric, Veronika Vistica, Katarina Osojnicki, Suzana Alilovic, Katarina Misljenovic, Maia Kanceljak, Antonia Maljevac, Ivana Peric, Nikolina Ropar, Isabella Vukovic, Kristina Mlinarevic, Jessica Smiciklas, Tamara Alilovic, Suzana Tandarich and Jacqueline Kelava. Missing from the tournament but certainly there in spirit were Cassandra Herceg and Angelina Jurcic.
Being gracious in defeat is not something that is easy but as usual girls, you’ve made us all so proud once again.
Coach Dean Smiciklas, Coach Damir Cvitan and all of your fans
On behalf of the coaches and the players, we would like to thank all of the parents on this team for their tremendous support. The team definitely would not be the same without each and every one of you.
